Last year, Mackenzie* found herself in a very unhealthy relationship and in serious need of help. After getting connected and moving into our Family Care home in Alabaster, life took on a wonderful new direction for her and her girls.

Even though they now live two states away in Louisiana, Melissa Atkinson and her husband, Josh, continue to donate monthly to Alabama Baptist Children's Homes (ABCH) as Hero Partners.

Once a child in care, Jessica now serves as a social worker.

On Friday, November 8, in Birmingham, we enjoyed a wonderful day as we dedicated the new Pathways Professional Counseling Center and rededicated our Administration building, as the "Paul and Diane Miller Administrative Service Center.

“There’s so much hard stuff these girls have been through and things we have to deal with. This Bucket List has given us something fun and helped us make connections with the kids that are important.”

Not a single month will pass in 2019, that a special group of co-workers in Mobile aren’t giving back in big ways to their community.

For children in foster care, there are many unknowns and upheavals in their lives. That’s why the role of a social worker is pivotal, as they walk with them through this difficult journey every step of the way.

"It takes a takes a village” is a phrase commonly spoken when talking about raising children. This statement is also very true for the life of a child in foster care.

Since the beginning of our ministry, the local church has been an essential partner in our mission to care for children and families in need across Alabama.

Drew and Lacey Barnwell have been incredible examples to us of obedience to God and faithfulness to the call of foster care. Married since 2010, they have four biological children and one adopted child, all under the age of seven!

We’re excited to share this story with you today, straight from the heart of Doris Thompson, a former resident of our home in Oxford, also known as the Friendship House. We hope her story encourages you wherever you are today, that no matter what circumstances life has handed you, that God has his hand on your life.

Tasha has two children, ages 4 and 13. She is currently working a full-time job as well as going to school full time, working to complete her bachelor’s degree within the next year! In her story below, we meet Tasha just before she found our Family Care program.

Our Hero Society donors provide monthly support for those in our care, and in this Spotlight, Ron and Cindy Carroll share how the ministry of ABCH has shaped their lives and those of their children and grandchildren.
