Choosing to be a foster parent is more than a decision—it’s a true calling. Our foster parents make sacrifices, choose to serve even when it’s especially hard, and advocate for children every moment without knowing the outcome.

This is the vision Chief Operations Officer for North Alabama, Dr. Michael Smith, has for the Ensor Shelter Care home being built in Decatur: that children who need a secure place to stay in a transitional time would be given a safe place to call home.

Hugh and Kelly McMurry have been giving to ABCH monthly for 14 years. It’s wonderful to imagine the impact they have made for children and families—and even more, because of the work we get to do, for the kingdom of God!

I didn’t feel qualified to be a foster parent. Not based on any rules or regulations, but rather by my life experiences, or in my case, the lack thereof.

Over the course of 35+ years, Jimmie and Martha Harris estimate they’ve been able to serve and care for around 300 children through Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes (ABCH), in Gardendale for a season and then largely on our Decatur campus as they care for school-aged girls.

Quanicia and her daughter, Briella, recently graduated from our Family Care program in Gardendale. Upon leaving, she decided to write a letter to future residents.

Camp of Champions 2018 was a blast! This year was a huge success, and once again, it was our largest camp ever with 995 attendees (that's 162 more than last year)!
