For children in foster care, there are many unknowns and upheavals in their lives. That’s why the role of a social worker is pivotal, as they walk with them through this difficult journey every step of the way.

Drew and Lacey Barnwell have been incredible examples to us of obedience to God and faithfulness to the call of foster care. Married since 2010, they have four biological children and one adopted child, all under the age of seven!

At one time, Tara Davis was a single female in her late thirties, unsure if the role of mother would be woven into her story. But with a plan in mind, God saw her, and he saw 15-year-old London, who would become her daughter.

More times than not, our house parents and social workers do not know how long a child will be with us. In light of this, we must choose to be glad for the time we do have, and choose to make the very most of it.

Everyone has a next step to care for children in need—whether that is giving financially, serving with their energy and time, or using the gifts God’s given them to enrich lives.

Choosing to be a foster parent is more than a decision—it’s a true calling. Our foster parents make sacrifices, choose to serve even when it’s especially hard, and advocate for children every moment without knowing the outcome.

I didn’t feel qualified to be a foster parent. Not based on any rules or regulations, but rather by my life experiences, or in my case, the lack thereof.

Each foster parent in the state of Alabama is required to keep a book for each child they care for while in their home—a book of photos and small but significant memories the child can take with them on their journey to a permanent home. They are called “Life Books.

Camp of Champions 2018 was a blast! This year was a huge success, and once again, it was our largest camp ever with 995 attendees (that's 162 more than last year)!

Alabama Baptist Children's Homes (ABCH) social worker, Elizabeth Williams, has been a tremendous blessing to our Dothan families for years. Beginning in 2017, she began serving children and families in the newest frontier of our foster care ministry, which has taken root in the Auburn-Opelika region!

Greg and Christy O’Connor had been fostering sister and brother, Kaya and Jaxson, for about a year when the 2014 ice storm hit the Birmingham area. The kids were just 4 and 5 years old then, and the O’Connor’s home was at least the second foster home they had lived in.
