care that provides a future

For many children who enter our care, college feels out of reach. Most are just trying to survive. Every day is a struggle, and dreaming about the future can feel impossible. But supporters like you change that. Our College Care program helps cover tuition, books, and other school expenses. This opens doors they never thought they’d walk through and for kids like Dallas,* that changes everything.

Dallas remembers exactly what it felt like to dream about college but assumed it would never be possible. Growing up, life carried more instability than certainty. She was in sixth grade when her mom and stepdad divorced, and by eleventh grade, her family needed a fresh start. That’s when Dallas, her mom, and her two younger siblings entered the ACBH Family Care program — a place that provided safety, stability, and space to rebuild. Once she graduated high school, Dallas entered ABCH’s College Care program.

“I’ve always wanted to go to college,” Dallas said, “but I just didn’t think I would be able to go to the college of my choice. When she found out she’d be able to go to college without endless financial aid applications or working double shifts, she said, “Y’all lifted a weight off my family’s shoulders and mine as well.”

Dallas began her college journey as an elementary education major but recently shifted to integrated studies. “I’m focusing more on psychology and sociology.” Her heart for children hasn’t changed, though. “I actually want to be a preschool teacher… then I’m gonna come back and get my master’s degree in early childhood education.”

Today, Dallas lives independently on campus and is fully embracing college life. She admits the journey hasn’t always been easy. When asked what she’s most proud of, she said, “Actually being in college and staying in college. Most of my friends dropped out… but I stayed.”

Set to graduate in fall 2026, Dallas is already looking ahead to earning her master’s degree. But perhaps the most meaningful change has been internal. “I learned the type of person I want to be versus the type of person people expect me to be.”

Your support is making it possible for Dallas to do more than earn a degree—she’s building the life she once thought was out of reach.
