The Parenting Strategies Checklist: A Practical Tool For Developing Mindfulness and Strengthening Your Parenting Skillset
Training by Rod Campbell | LPC-S, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor
Every person approaches parenting with their own personality, attachment style, and parenting style. These innate tendencies tend to produce relative strengths and corresponding areas in which growth could be needed.
The Parenting Strategies Checklist is a self-report, 40-item assessment designed to help parents identify their own personal parenting strengths and growth areas. It contains four main categories: Structure, Nurture, Engagement, and Challenge, with 10 items per category. Each item has been designed to represent a specific attachment-based intervention and to make possible immediate, practical application within the family system.
In this training, we will define and describe each of the four main categories and their impact on attachment style. We will also review each of the 40 items, connecting them the principles from which they are derived and discuss how they are intended to be implemented in family interactions. Finally, we will discuss how to use this tool to develop a personalized, interactive treatment plan for improving parental mindfulness and implementation of parenting strategies. (1 CE)
