At one time, Tara Davis was a single female in her late thirties, unsure if the role of mother would be woven into her story. But with a plan in mind, God saw her, and he saw 15-year-old London, who would become her daughter.

“I can’t tell you how many times we’ve taken a break and we’ve said, okay, we’re done now, and then the Lord calls us back,” said James Wolfe. They laughed at this, remembering all of the times they thought they had “retired” from foster parenting, yet the Lord had a different plan.

Roots take time to dig in and grow, so we take the small steps of showing up and planting seeds. Stephan Scott experienced this process in his own life.

Natalie* came to us with no place to go, and no family locally to turn to. She found herself, after 12 years of raising her boys, without a home and without a stable income, despite the hard work she put into two jobs.

More times than not, our house parents and social workers do not know how long a child will be with us. In light of this, we must choose to be glad for the time we do have, and choose to make the very most of it.

Everyone has a next step to care for children in need—whether that is giving financially, serving with their energy and time, or using the gifts God’s given them to enrich lives.

"Can you pray for me?” These five words came from a girl who, for so long, did not realize how truly loved she was by her heavenly Father.

"One time, we were celebrating the birthday of a sixth-grade boy who was in our home. I realize that may sound somewhat ordinary, but for him, we learned it was the first time he had blown out a candle on a birthday cake.”

With much excitement for all God had in store to help families, we opened Grace’s House of Hope in October 2017. This new Family Care home in Mobile is able to serve up to seven families at one time.

Choosing to be a foster parent is more than a decision—it’s a true calling. Our foster parents make sacrifices, choose to serve even when it’s especially hard, and advocate for children every moment without knowing the outcome.

This is the vision Chief Operations Officer for North Alabama, Dr. Michael Smith, has for the Ensor Shelter Care home being built in Decatur: that children who need a secure place to stay in a transitional time would be given a safe place to call home.

Hugh and Kelly McMurry have been giving to ABCH monthly for 14 years. It’s wonderful to imagine the impact they have made for children and families—and even more, because of the work we get to do, for the kingdom of God!

I didn’t feel qualified to be a foster parent. Not based on any rules or regulations, but rather by my life experiences, or in my case, the lack thereof.

The people of Christ Fellowship Church (CFC) in Birmingham, have been generous supporters in multiple ways for nearly four years, our partnership has continued to grow since the very start!
